what:  Claire’s first real concert! She was SO excited! I also picked up her friends Bailey & Nick and they all had a blast. She is a little infatuated with Erik (the drummer) right now so she was thrilled to have her photo taken with him!

It was SUPER hot in there – like it had to be over 90 degrees – and it was very dark and LOUD (ha!  I’m too old for this!) but it was fun to see them in action! I would have loved to see Slaves to Righteousness too but I had to work and we didn’t make it in time for them. Maybe next time!

Anyway, they are very talented, super fun, and love their fashion sense! My neighbor Nichole & I photographed them for this event and we also teamed up last fall to shoot them in the field.

p.s. for the photogs out there, I only brought 2 lenses – my 85mm f/1.4 and my 24-70 f/2.8. I shot wide open for the most part with an ISO of around 2000+ – shutter speeds all over but mostly 100ish or so. It was SUPER dark. Most images were edited normally, then run through ToyCamera AnalogColor – see this post for more info on that.

Well we got our chance for the outdoor session last night  and it was super super fun!!  My friend Jennie joined us and she was a huge help!  Thanks Jennie! 

Shane (far right)  is our pastor’s son and this is his band.  They won “battle of the bands” to win a spot on stage at the MN State Fair, so congratulations guys!!  They are playing TONIGHT at 7pm so check them out if you get a chance!!  It’s a great opportunity for them!  they were totally willing to do anything we asked!   They look like they are running from crazed teenage girls or something!    Sam the drummer Zach – lead vocals Shane – guitar & vocals A shot of Jennie in action.  She was using a fisheye so can’t wait to see this image!  fun stuff! Here’s my shot!  (btw….used my 24-70 for the whole shoot) I told them to pretend like they were fighting here…hehe! Once we started losing light a little bit (around 8pm) we worked w/ the strobes more.  I was using a vagabond II, alien bee 800 (set to 1/2 power), a 60″ shoot-through umbrella and pocket wizards to fire the light.  I like how it turned out!  yeah, this was before we lost the light obviously….but actually was only like 15 min before the shot above.  Just depends on how you do your camera settings.  used a strobe on this shot too. Love these two!  Oh, and jumping was their idea!  They got some major air!  (and landed pretty hard so we only did it twice!)Thanks guys for having Jennie & I be your official band photographers!  haha!  It was a fun change of pace for both of us!

but we took a few on the grass before leaving! There’s something about this one I like. and this one. I did a washed-out color here by layering Pioneer Woman’s “heartland” over the color image & changing the opacity to about 55%If you are familiar w/ Fargo/Moorhead, you’ll know that there are tons of trains that go through there – so it wasn’t long before a train came by! I tried to get the “blur” of the train here….oh well – first time I ever tried it! It sorta works.

Then we went down by Mexican Village

I like this one. Trying an oldie but a goodie here – using Virtual Photographer’s photocopy filter at about 65% opacity! (Ok, it’s my new fav thing again and I used it on quite a few of their photos)Here’s Steph & Stac – Stephanie was a great help w/ the photos! She even let Stacie borrow her hat & scarf & top (fuschia – later on). Thanks Steph!Beautiful! (oh, those are Steph’s gloves too!)
OK I was joking that I didn’t think my camera was capable of taking photos of people wearing Packer’s gear….haha! But they do look good in green!

Of course PURPLE is a much more flattering color!!

Fashion designers really need to cater to us 40+ people more…and hey, we have more $$ to spend than those young gals! OK, so that’s my little rant for a sec…

We were walking to the car and I spotted this ‘bebe’ ad on a bus stop thingy. I used Sheye’s “pale and interesting” action here – as well as the cool frame from Dressed in Pink.

Here’s another of the graffitti wall. The guy was actually painting it at the time and people were standing around watching! I had Lauren block him. We didn’t hang out too long since we felt a little silly. Love his work!! Very pretty!
