  • Slept in until 8:30! (that’s super late for us!)
  • Scott took Buddy for a walk
  • I was forbidden from being on the computer all day!
  • We all went to Target and bought patio furniture for our deck!  We haven’t had patio furniture in almost 10 years!
  • Went to Culver’s for lunch – yum!
  • Went to Northtown mall and Scott, Jacob & Claire got new cell phones (a belated Christmas gift for Jacob & Claire!)
  • Put up lights under the deck
  • Put our flag on our deck!
  • Ate dinner on our deck!
  • Took some photos of Claire in the wild daisies
  • Claire went to play at Jacy’s and Scott & Jacob took a bike ride (hence…the computer time!)
  • Enjoyed the BEAUTIFUL weather and gorgeous day!
  • Bonfire coming soon! ??

Hope everyone else had a great day too!  Thank you to all the men and women who have fought and continue to fight for our freedom to do all of the above!  :-)

Jacob was a GREAT assistant and held my reflector for all these backlit shots.  It made all the difference!  Boy, I could get used to having an assistant!  He said he’d do it…for the right price!  haha!

btw…for the photogs out there – here are my settings for this photo – keep in mind I was using a reflector (white side) –  Nikon D700, 24-70mm f/2.8 lens, f-stop = 3.5, shutter = 1/1250, ISO = 400, pattern metering, auto white balance – and I shoot in manual/jpeg.   Taken around 7:30pm last night.   Here I used Pioneer Woman’s soft & faded, then ctrl-alt-u and + lightness +14, then put a sepia layer on top at blending mode of soft light. The hill – closer to sunset rather than sunrise.  :-) {ok, I have to say it – she is GORGEOUS!!} Used Sheye’s “honeychild”, then “ruby shoes” and “softly” here. This one little butterfly kept landing on Jacob & I as we were taking Elle’s photos!  It was the coolest thing!  I was trying to hand it to Elle – and just for a split second, it landed on her and I got the shot!  :-)    Here’s to new friendship.  :-)

Luckily we were able to sneak a few shots in before it started pouring! We did our whole session on location at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. (behind the Walker – and of course the cool grass was mowed/tamped down! grrr….) (love Ben’s expression here!) OK, I must say that if it had been any family that was NOT laid-back, this session would probably have been a bust!  This is just about the time it started to sprinkle…then started to POUR! So we went across the street into the Cowles Conservatory (and of course there is a glaring notice on the door that photographers need permits!  Well hello I didn’t plan to shoot there, so I didn’t have one.  We took our chances….eek!)  It’s sooooo cool in there!  Love it!  I just might need to get one of those permits!  ;-) Poor Lexi with her wet hair!  She still looks adorable! Ben found his belly button! So I figured we didn’t get kicked out of the conservatory so why not try to shoot in the Walker!  They were VERY nice and gave permission – we just couldn’t have any of the art work in the background or in the photos at all.  Not a problem!  Lexi had to use the bathroom so we took these when she was done (I don’t believe the wallpaper counts as art work…haha!)  The light was really funky/orange back there – so I turned this b&w, then did a gradient map (pink to white) here.  Something different!  ha!  Not sure what I think….  (this was actually at the very end of our session – Lexi with her reward for being so good!) THIS is what I was looking for – the headphones!  The kids seemed to enjoy it! Thank goodness for photoshop and a camera that can handle high ISOs!  You would not believe how DARK it was this day!  I used Pioneer Woman’s “fresh and colorful” here. Thanks for coming again guys!  Next time we BETTER NOT get rained out!  :-)

Julian is 6 months – my very favorite baby age!  What a sweetie! (how cute is his outfit?!  Love the touches of pink!) Adrian wasn’t too into holding his brother or being around him too much though, so this is the best shot we got!  haha! It was just a PERFECT day last Sunday!  Couldn’t have asked for nicer weather!Adrian loved running all over the park! I wanted to take some photos of just mom & dad – but seriously Adrian kept running FAST everywhere!  (just about gave me a heart attack at one point when he got too close to the water by the bridge!) So we took these at the very end when the kids were safely strapped in their car seats in the car!  haha!     Thanks for coming guys!  It was great meeting your cute family!  :-)

(btw….the cute little hat with the candle?  They donated it to my prop stash!  Thanks so much Sara!  It’s adorable!) mom & dad have similar photos to these with Grace & Tate, so they wanted to re-create it here.  Hopefully we suceeded!  :-) (aren’t they a BEAUTIFUL family?) this is my new frame from the antique store!  Shelley & I went antiquing a few weeks ago and I saw this and knew I needed to have it!  :-) Mr. Tate – he’s always SOOOOO good for his photos! And beautiful Grace!  Her name suits her perfectly!  :-)   (btw……this chair is from the antique store too!) I’m going to try to be less “wordy” in my posts cuz I feel like I am just babbling and saying the same thing over & over again.  But isn’t she gorgeous!  Here’s another take on the “hill” shot – taken with my lens baby w/ the f 8 “ring” in this time!  :-) We went to Anoka for some park-like photos.  :-) Thanks for coming again guys!  Your family is so great!  :-)

You wouldn’t believe how many gnats I had to edit out of these grassy field photos!  uggh!  But I liked them so much that it was worth it!  :-) LOVE the weather we have been having!  :-) some mom/dad shots This was the very LAST photo I took and it’s one of my very favorites!  If this was my family, I’d blow it up big.  :-)   btw….used Pioneer Woman’s “heartland” action here at reduced opacity over my normal sepia edit.Thanks for coming again Neil, Tara & Eleanor!  Your family is so adorable!
