Photos by Robin » rural http://www.photosbyrobin.com/blog Blog Thu, 09 Sep 2010 00:20:12 +0000 http://wordpress.org/?v=2.9.2 en hourly 1 Grace & Olivia | Minneapolis Child and Family Photographer http://www.photosbyrobin.com/blog/grace-olivia-minneapolis-child-and-family-photographer/ http://www.photosbyrobin.com/blog/grace-olivia-minneapolis-child-and-family-photographer/#comments Mon, 30 Aug 2010 21:52:53 +0000 Robin http://www.photosbyrobin.com/blog/?p=2804 Grace, Olivia, Bill & Nichole made the long trek again this year – all the way from SD!  If you’ve followed my blog at all, I’m sure you’ll recognize this family.  I’ve been doing Grace’s photos ever since she was a newborn – and now she’s FOUR!  Man time flies!   Nichole wanted to start out in the studio and get some formal shots.  She has a certain frame she wanted to put a certain pose into – so I hope we got it for her!  Here’s a card design from a few years back – just to get more of a holiday look/idea for it.  (template from HERE)    I must say I’ve decided it is extremely difficult to work with 2yr olds/toddlers in the studio.  It’s a very confined space and I need them to be in a certain spot for the lighting to be just right.  Plus “my tricks” get really old after about the first 15 minutes, so this is about the only good shot I was able to get of miss Olivia!  :-) Yeah, and here’s my attempt to get both of them on the couch together.  haha!  Of course they had NO PROBLEM sitting on the couch when it wasn’t in the right position for a photo!  ;-) So we went outside….aaaahhhh, it’s like a breath of fresh air, isn’t it?  I must say that the non-posed, non-traditional stuff is much more my style.  :-)  

Poor Nichole suffers TERRIBLY from allergies though….which I sort of forgot about until we got outside into the long grass…..oops!   I hope you weren’t TOO miserable after our session Nichole!  :-)  

btw…..if this was my family, I’d print this huge on a canvas!  Just sayin’…. ;-) btw….for this shot I was “hiding” in the long yellow flower things and popped up like a jack-in-the box.  I was wearing a big frog googly-eyed head band and at one point had a big weed sticking out of it.  I told Bill sometimes I feel like the clown you hire for a kid’s birthday party.  haha!  Oh well!   ;-) I laid out this quilt & pillow and the lighting was just PERFECT!   Too bad they didn’t both want to lay together and smile sweetly…sigh!  Oh well!  Tried my best!  :-) Time for a walk.  They really seemed to like trying to stay on the beaten path.  :-)   btw….LOVE the curls!! Ring around the Rosie! Thanks for coming again guys!  It’s always great to see you and hope your weekend in the cities was FUN!   :-)

I love how mom dressed everyone!  Don’t they look great together!?  And she made her own necklace!  Alicia – I still think you should open up an etsy shop! Mom brought along these great pinwheels – the kids loved them!   (and me too!) Used Pioneer Woman “seventies” here. Then we drove down the road a little to a corn field. Dad was a professional photog in another life so he had some great suggestions for shots!  The one on the left was his idea.  I love the sun flare thru the tree!  :-) btw….ever since like 3 or 4 sessions ago, if you want to make Greyson laugh (and therefore the whole rest of the family since it’s contaigious!) just call him a “Ding-dong”!  It works like a charm!  haha!  Don’t they look like a bunch of ding-dongs?  They sure do!  ;-) OK I have a story about miss Liv.  If you look at the link I posted above from our last session, you’ll see a little squishy yellow guy.  She loved that thing so much so I bought her one of her own.  I of course gave it to her after our session (when she proved how GOOD she could be!)  She named it “Lily flower bumblebee cheese-foot” – haha!  What an original name huh?  :-) I gave Quinn a pink one that she named “Bubblegum” And Greyson hadn’t named his at the time mom sent the e-mail….haha!  :-) (notice here how Quinn took her headband and used it as a belt?  Clever girl!) Then we walked across the road for another fun location. Some mom & dad snuggle time – awww! Thanks for coming again guys!  It’s always great to see you all!  :-)

And we can’t forget about big sister Reagan!  What a cutie!  I was a little worried when she said she was TWO…but she did great!  :-) the whole family unit! And then the cake……!  I have never seen a kid completely SHRED their cake before!  haha!  He was having a great time!   When I was going through my pictures on the computer, my daughter walked in and kept saying over and over again, “He’s SOOOO CUTE!!”  Yes, he sure is! Then we cleaned up and went to a nearby park.  Lindsay’s parents - Jim & Jan – came along too!  They were a great help with the kids and thanks for carrying my “mystery box” for me Jim!  haha!  Thanks for coming guys!  It was so nice to meet the rest of the family too!  :-)

Love the b&w!  So non-traditional girl stuff = great!  The headband was made by yours truly.  :-) I made this headband too.  :-)   Hannah was so into the beads & “accessorizing”!  She’s definitely a girly girl!  She wouldn’t take her eyes off my goodies once she saw them!  Then we went downstairs and got a few studio shots. But the really fun part was the little tea party/birthday party we set up for Hannah in the woods!  Like I said in the previous post, mom thought of everything!  It was a blast!  :-) We knew once we got that cake out there would be no going back, so we tried to get in a few family photos… Hannah was getting pretty tired by then though so we moved on to the cake! People were going by on their bikes (since we were right off the Elm Creek Park trail) and everyone kept wishing Hannah a happy birthday!  It was cute!  Happy Birthday Hannah!  See you in November!  :-)

]]> http://www.photosbyrobin.com/blog/look-whoos-turning-1-minneapolis-child-and-family-photographer/feed/ 2 Kori | Minneapolis Maternity Photographer http://www.photosbyrobin.com/blog/kori-minneapolis-maternity-photographer/ http://www.photosbyrobin.com/blog/kori-minneapolis-maternity-photographer/#comments Thu, 24 Jun 2010 19:40:57 +0000 Robin http://www.photosbyrobin.com/blog/?p=2121 I was on facebook and saw that a fellow photographer, JM Photography (btw…click “like” on her facebook fan page for a chance to win a prize!), did an AWESOME maternity shoot at the barn really close to where I live so I just had to play!  I LOVED the field ones, so that’s where I wanted to practice shooting.  I don’t do very many maternity shots at all, so I talked my neighbor Kori into going out for a few practice shots!   We didn’t get out to the field until almost 8:30pm, so we were losing light quickly.  But it was oh so pretty!  I just love summer!!!  :-) I’m totally kicking myself for not having Kori just wear her jeans w/ her cowboy boots – that’s much more “her” – but she was sweet enough to agree to wear a skirt for me!  haha! 

OH, and it’s pretty sad when she’s like 8-9 months pregnant and can fit into one of my old skirts!  :-) Isn’t she adorable?  Can’t wait to meet her little boy in a few weeks!   Thanks for being a perfect model Kori!  :-)

(paper here is from this site)  I tried something different on this photo – used Sheye’s Vintage Wash duotone at FULL opacity, then saved that file and layered it over my normal sepia edit and changed the opacity to 51%.  I kinda like how it turned out.  :-)   Isn’t she so cute?  LOVE the big brown eyes and all the curls! They were actually swinging her here but I liked this one the best.  :-) Sadie was fussing a little so dad gave her a few throws up in the air.  She loved it!  Marilyn & Sadie – awww – so cute! Marilyn & Jason – awww!  :-) Thanks for coming Marilyn, Jason & Sadie!  It was nice to meet you!  Your family is way cute!

As you know, 2 year olds are notorious for not behaving well and being very independent!  I will say for a 2 year old, Olivia was GREAT!  But there were moments when she did what she wanted!  Like refusing to wear this necklace after 2 shots!  Such a little cutiepie! The purple flowers are still blooming so we headed out to the park!  This was actually supposed to be a mini session but that didn’t work out with both of our schedules so we did a full session in the morning instead.  Here’s Olivia showing how many fingers she is (after some help from dad!)  :-) (chair I got from an antique store in Buffalo – shopping with Shelley!)  Paper here is from this site. We tried to get some daisy shots, but Olivia really did not like it there!  Oh well!  Sometimes my ideas don’t always work out. I actually did Ryan & Lisa’s engagement shoot way back in 2005 I believe!  They’re just as cute as ever! Thanks for coming again Ryan, Lisa & Olivia!  It’s always great to see you all!  :-)
